You shall overcome today!

    Have you ever felt like you were in a never ending spin cycle of problems, issues, chaos, pain, suffering, trials and tribulations...and can never break free from them? No matter how hard you try...nothing seems to change right? Cant catch a break, huh? This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of listening to a sermon given by the eldest son, Walter Scott Thomas Jr,  of my pastor Bishop Walter Scott Thomas Sr. The scripture, (Exodus  14:19-22)  talked about how when the Isrealites escaped from Egypt...running from their oppressors the Egyptians toward freedom. When all of a sudden they hit a 'unmovable' obstacle.....the ocean. Has that ever happened to you? You might be on your way to your own personal freedom....when you hit an obstacle that you know deep in your heart YOU CANNOT MOVE. Well how do you think the Isrealites felt? Oppressed for thousands of years ....and you finally have the motivation and inspiration from a divine source, a superior leader (Moses) to actually get up and run away from the pain....get off that hamster wheel of this hectic depressing life and move onto bigger and better things. Live a life created just for you, with all the pleasures and happiness that God intended for you. Then all of a sudden...that dream...your inspiration is out of arms length due to something massive, something that you may have tried and tried to remove but can't. Sound familiar right? Well just like the Isrealites, a lot of us suffer daily from our own personal oppressors, in all shapes and forms imaginable to man.

    A oppressor can be more than just a person physically, mentally or emotionally keeping you in a state of negativeness. A oppressor can also be a object or intangible being/feeling/state that can be the key to holding you back from your blessing. Look at it like this, if every weekend it is a MUST that you have to have a bottle of alcohol in your hand, a blunt in your mouth or a new 'friend' in your bed, then say hello to your oppressor. You have become enslaved to your addiction. What harm do you think it can really cause you? You tell me.... you drink yourself into a drunken stupor every weekend, you act a fool, your friends post crazy embarrassing pictures on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter of you acting out.......and you wonder why you have health issues? Why you have constant pains shooting through your body? You wonder why your the laughing stock of all your friends and no one take you seriously? You go to the club every weekend searching for Mr Right or Miss Wifey.......you find the 'lucky one' for the night...take them home and have sex. Another notch on your belt, another victim on your list. And you wonder why your not happy? Why you have so many babyfather/mothers as well as kids...but no ring on your finger? These are the things that have oppressed you for years. But until today you have no noticed how much energy, time, emotions, finances you have invested into something that has been sucking the life out of you daily. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...TODAY YOU WILL BE FREE FROM YOUR BONDAGE!

    Now just like the Isrealites you have become fed up, you want OUT RIGHT NOW! Your admitting that you have been unjustifiably oppressed and you don't want to take it anymore. Congratulations. Now what? Time to put your trust in our Father who created us. I know I know.... doesn't sound like the answer you wanted to hear right? But check this out....when the Isrealites came to a halt at the edge of the ocean, they thought all hope was lost. They knew that their oppressors would find them and take them back into oppression. Isn't it funny how the main thing/person that oppressed you fights harder than you could possibly think to get you back when you decide to leave? Notice how hard a worthless ex-boyfriend or girlfriend will pull out all the stops to 'PROVE TO YOU' that they were wrong, or need you back in their life, or how they will 'be a better girlfriend/boyfriend' if you only come back. ITS A TRICK! DON'T FALL FOR IT! The devil will stop at nothing to have the strong ones back on his team. But back to the situation at hand. 

    They are stuck at the oceans edge and are stuck. What to do now? BELIEVE! Believe in him. Think about it..if he was the one who designed us...who created us... don't you think he would know what we can with stand, what we can bear? Not to mention he has limitless power, therefore he can solve all problems and erase all pain and suffering. So why not believe that he can take you out of your current situation and make you brand new. The Isrealites did, and they were saved. Investing the power within Moses, he was able to part a entire sea in order to allow his people to cross it into the promise land, while all their enemies drowned after the seas came crashing down on them. See when you put your trust in him, God has your back ALWAYS! He starts by shifting things around in your life to help you start to transition into the 'NEW YOU'. Believe me...its hard...BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT! In order to gain more you must loose some. Once he shifts things around that you might have thought never could be moved, he starts to heal you. Old wounds, reopened wounds, fresh wounds...he heals them all. Then he shows you what your able to achieve, what your able to acquire, what your able to accomplish. And gives you a fresh new start. But this all can happen once you believe....once you put your trust in him...once you take that leap of faith. Its all up to you. Your future, your decision determines whether you grow into the person that God intended for you to be and live a life of peace and happiness or continue to be oppressed. TODAY YOU SHALL OVERCOME.....BUT ONLY IF YOU ALLOW GOD TO GUIDE YOU TO YOUR VICTORY!
